I used to be good at waiting to hear back on a submission, but that’s because I was still pretty new and pretty ignorant in the way things worked. Now that I’ve learned a lot in the past few months, the wait gets harder, because I used to not think I had a chance. Sure there was that little glimmer of maybe, maybe, maybe, but it was a BIG fatty maybe.
Now, I feel like I might actually have a chance. I understand the publishers I am submitting to (at least to some point), I feel like I understand what my story is supposed to deliver, and I feel like my writing has improved over the past 15 years of writing novel length fiction.
And, when I feel like I have a shot, the waiting really is much harder.
So true, Nicole! You get that ‘I’m sooo close’ feeling and want to hold your breath. Not a good idea though, given wait times ;).
Haha, Rula, exactly!
Eat chocolate. Chocolate helps 🙂
I just bought two nice big chocolate bars for that very purpose. =)
