Can I tell you a secret?
I don’t think I’ve ever written a story that had Valentine’s Day in it. Christmas, birthdays, thanksgiving, even Easter, but I have never had any Valentine’s Day scenes. Kind of weird for a romance writer.
But, I am not really big into Valentine’s Day or big ooey gooey romantic gestures in real life. I love them in fiction, but I don’t want them to happen to me. (I know, I’m weird).
My husband and I usually exchange presents. Sometimes I make heart shaped baked goods, but overall it’s just not like super romantic, and I like it that way.
Now that I have a son, I do want to do more for Valentine’s Day. I mean, it is a day to celebrate love and I don’t think that’s relegated to only romantic love. As a romance writer, I do think love is one of the most powerful things out there, so celebrating love is important. And if the celebration isn’t ooey gooey? That’s Ok!
