Describing Expressions

When I am writing, I find my characters do a few things OVER and OVER again:

-smile

-frown

-sigh

-shrug

I’m working on diversifying the way I describe these actions, and I got inspiration from an odd source this past week.

I was taking my son’s 18 month pictures, and the sheer amount of expressions he uses were well beyond four basic smiles, frowns, or shrugs. Here’s a small sample:

Suspicious eyes:

Tight lipped, squinty eyed smile. And dimple!

Scrunchy faced conquerer.

Wrinkled nose shouting.

I could go on, but you get the picture. How would you describe these expressions?
